University of Notre Dame
The University of Notre Dame is a private research university inspired by its long-established Catholic ethos to be a powerful force for good in the world.
Father Edward F. Sorin had a dream to establish a great Catholic university in America. In November 1842, his dream became a reality, and the private research university opened its doors. Notre Dame University is unique because it becomes part of the student’s extended family. Once accepted, you’re considered part of the Notre Dame family for the rest of your life.
The setting of the University is highly convenient; located alongside South Bend, Indiana. It is in the center of a cosmopolitan area with a large population numbering over 300, 000 people. Being suburban, it combines the best of urban and rural, giving the students access to the best of both worlds.
The Campus size is 1,265 acres, containing 32 residence halls for the 3,586 currently enrolled students.
Notre Dame University offers a small piece of heaven to students interested in exploring the fine and performing arts. The university provides widespread opportunities and often hosts events and art exhibits showcasing student work.
The Snite Museum of Art, located on the Notre Dame Campus grounds, holds a permanent collection of over 30, 000 works of art from many eras and cultures. The museum offers workshops, programs, and lectures, providing an active role for their students to act as student advisory members and gallery guides.
Another famous campus attraction is the Notre Dame Stadium, a vast outdoor football stadium on the University grounds. It has a capacity of 80,795 spectators, which makes it the 23rd biggest stadium in the US.
Even the Main Administration Building is an attraction with its magnificent golden dome, a famous landmark of the University. The dome was built in 1879 after the previous building was gutted by fire.
The dome is gilded in genuine gold leaf, and when it was regilded in 2005, it used only about a fist-full of gold leaf to coat the entire dome structure.
The Basilica of the Sacred Heart and the Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes are special places for students to worship and spend quiet moments during times of stress and when wanting to pray in peaceful surroundings.
There are many more campus attractions at Notre Dame University, like the Log Chapel and the Hesburgh Library.
All in all, Notre Dame University is a prime choice University for any student who gets accepted.
